Routes of Infection and Means of Transportation

Routes of Infection, Infection control and prevention depends on disrupting the transmission of pathogens from their source (the infected animal or human) to new hosts -animal or human.

Direct contact transmission occurs through direct body contact with the tissues or fluids of an infected individual. Physical transfer and entry of microorganisms occurs through mucous membranes (eyes, mouth), open wounds, or abraded skin.

The typical of the transmission method depends mostly on the characteristics of the causative agent and those of the host. Some micro-organisms are restricted to a limited number of transition routes, whereas others can follow many different pathways to infect their hosts.
